Student Clubs
Association of Civil Engineering (ACE)
The association of civil engineering (ACE) at GITM is a student body. It routinely organizes workshops on various design and simulation software, which provides much needed exposure to the real life engineering problems, both technical as well as managerial kind by organizing industrial tours visits, lectures on topics of general interests and seminars of specific interest etc.
Besides this, it also organizes fresher’s welcome, farewell for the graduating students and happy hours throughout the year. It also serves as an interface between the students and the faculty and strives for improvement in student-faculty interaction.
Society of Structural Engineers (SSE)
The Society of Structural Engineers at GITM is a collegiate chapter of SSE India. It was established in August 2015 by the collective efforts of a group of students with a strong urge to complement the theoretical knowledge imparted in classrooms, emphasizing on the practical aspects of engineering. The idea was to develop a structural culture to strengthen the institute and SSE GITM started with an initial strength of 3 student members.
One of the most important qualities of SSE GITM is its diversity with students from almost all departments of the institute. Any passionate student of the institute can be a participating member of this society. It provides a platform for students to share and increase their engineering know-how through increased interaction between students at all levels via group activity, lectures, workshops, brainstorming sessions and many institute level competitions.
Self Help Group (SHG)
It can be helpful for focusing entirely on learning teaching strategies through education, practice, feedback and coaching including analysis, modeling and discussion etc. The SHG group provides an opportunity to discuss their experiences. Its main objective is that the higher performance students improve question answering skills of weaker students and make the group a high achiever. During implementation, the class is divided in 5-6 self groups that formed in one tutorial batch, and each group gets a separate tutorial sheet comprising 4-5 students. The teacher checks the copy of the coordinator of the group 100% and guides him as required so that the coordinator directs the subordinates accordingly.
Industrial Connection:-
Cordial ties with industry and government agencies result in consultancies, student projects and visits. Industrial contacts include National Highways, Livestock Research Center, Freyssinet, Stewols & Co., Hindustan Lever Limited etc. Experts from industry are regularly invited to present lectures and to interact with students and faculty. The department is a keen participant in various societies and institutes, such as the Construction Industry Development Council, the Institute for Steel Development and Growth and the Construction Management Society.
An institute industry collaborative project has been signed with different companies. MOUs have been signed to upgrade staff and students to give glimpse of trends and technologies. A student chapter has been formed for Indian Concrete Institute.
