Mechanical Engineering is the application of physical principles to the creation of useful devices, objects and machines. Mechanical Engineers use principles such as heat, force and the conservation of mass and energy to analyze static and dynamic physical systems in contributing to the design of things / systems.

The department of mechanical engineering caters to 60 Under Graduate students. The highly talented staff of this department endeavors to train the brains and hone the manual skills of the youngsters using modern equipments in its laboratories and workshops.

The workshop of the department caters to the training requirements of all the departments of GITM. It is spread over an area covering more than 981 sq.mtr. and comprises the following shops well equipped with modern machine tools and related accessories-
